SERVICES AT THE LIBRARY
Its free services include: access to reading materials: books, magazines, novels, daily newspapers, and other informational text - textbooks used in the schools.
MONDAY - FRIDAY
In 2018, more than 12, 000 persons including students used the facility: 30% females and 70% males.
There is also free use of: the computer and access to the internet, space for studying /learning round tables and for small group meetings.
Other Library Programs
Reading Liberia, supported through the WE-CARE/ CODE partnership,was the first to produce color illustrated, locally written culture relevant children’s books. These books are available for reading at the WE-CARE Library
Under the library program, WE-CARE establishes libraries /reading rooms in schools (mainly primary institutions and the community) and distributes free books to these institutions or the libraries for its reading Liberia program.
Little Rascal Reading Club
Takes place at the WE-CARE Library every Saturday for three hours throughout the year. About 15 -20 children from Central Monrovia listen to stories, are read to and have the opportunity to choose their own books to read. After the session snack is serve . The program is conducted by three high school volunteers.
Story Hour For Kids
Is the vacation reading program that runs for six weeks and is conducted usually in an economic challenged community during the school vacation period. About 200-250 kids attend the program every Saturday. The program operates on a theme: Reading is fun and focuses on play, reading stories , writing and communication skills( kids begin to talk in front of their peers by telling stories). The four hour session begins with, storytelling, reading and reading activities, writing/drawing , singing which runs for an hour and a half. This is followed by an hour of play time. Then basic sanitation is demonstrated through the hand washing process in preparation for the time for snacks(pop corn, cool aid , biscuits, etc.) which ends the day.
